A sign recently appeared at the huge former concert hall, believed to be Britain’s largest Spoons, reading: “Renovation of the Wetherspoon at the Royal Victoria Parade.”

“This pub will be closed from Monday November 11 and will reopen on Saturday December 7, 2024.

“We apologize for any inconvenience – your nearest Wetherspoon pub: The Mechanical Elephant, Marine Terrace, Margate.”

Following the pub giant’s £4.5 million refurbishment between 2016 and 2017, the boozer has often received praise for its stunning location, with the rear of the property opening onto the beach.

Earlier this year, he was ranked second best “spoons” in the country in a list created by QR Code Generator.

Located in Harbor Parade, JD Wetherspoon has taken over the Grade II listed building, with a grand opening in August 2017.

Designed by architect Stanley Davenport Adshead in 1903, the once-abandoned lodge sat empty for nine years before Tim Martin’s firm took over.

Before the renovation, it was a casino which closed in 2008 and was damaged by fire in 2011.

Today it has two floors and two bars, a seaside beer garden on the ground floor and a roof terrace on the first floor.

Spoons fanatic David Bingham – who spent four years enjoying the “longest pub crawl in history” – admitted last year that the Royal Victoria Pavilion had been the best he had gone.

And when KentOnline journalist Rhys Griffiths took on the gigantic task Having visited all the Kent branches in the space of a weekend, he also spoke enthusiastically about the bar.

The chain has been contacted for more information on the renovation.
