General elections: Voters lack confidence in major parties on key issues

The first political opinion poll of the general election campaign showed that a significant share of voters do not trust the major parties to answer key questions.

Nearly one in four people believe that no party has the advantage on housing, health, crime or immigration.

The Red C survey of Business position watch Good Gael is the most reliable party on the economy, job creation and education.

Sinn Féin had the advantage in terms of housing, while the Green Party is the most reliable when it comes to the environment.

However, 25% of those questioned believe that no party or group is best equipped to deal with the problems in the health sector.

The major parties are all neck and neck with Fine Gael, Fianna Fail and Sinn Féin, all within four percentage points of each other in popularity.

The survey was conducted among just over 1,200 people online and by telephone between November 1 and 8.
