Actress Sheila Sim undergoes hair transplant to repair ‘significant baldness’

SINGAPORE – Local actress-model Sheila Sim feels less stress about her hair after undergoing a two-day hair transplant.

The 40-year-old revealed on Instagram Stories on November 6 that since she started modeling in 2001, she had received comments that her hair was thinning.

“The reason I had baldness was because when I was young, I waxed my hair,” she said.

She posted photos of her thinning crown, writing: “These were my thinning spots and bald spots that were usually covered in hair fibers. »

Sim gave her followers a glimpse of the shaved parts on the back of her head and the red puncture holes where the donor hair follicles were transplanted.

“What I did today – 1,601 transplants,” she wrote on November 7, and admitted to feeling “very groggy” after taking painkillers.

On November 8, she posted a video of her wearing a beanie and heading out for the second day of hair transplant surgery, as her husband Deon Woo, a credit specialist in banking, and their daughters Layla, four, and Skyla, one and a half, dropped her off at the clinic.

She said: “The level of discomfort – I would say about three or four (out of 10). »

She later thanked her doctor and his team in an Instagram post, sharing a photo of her bandaged head.

The 1.74m star wrote: “Being tall has been somewhat advantageous because the sparse spots are not immediately noticeable to others. However, once I sit down, the secret I have carefully hidden at the top of my head becomes visible.

Sim said taking the step to address her “significant” hair loss has been both exciting and nerve-wracking, but she is confident she made the right choice in opting for hair transplantation.

“I look forward to sharing my transformation journey with you all in the months to come,” she said. “When I feel less groggy, maybe I can even join (an Instagram Live).”
