Will COP29 result in a viable agreement on climate change? | Climate crisis

Delegates gather in Azerbaijan for the United Nations climate conference.

Leaders from around the world are coming together to tackle the climate crisis.

Azerbaijan is hosting the United Nations COP29 conference this year, with delegates discussing ways to curb global warming.

Scientists warn that progress is not on track and inaction could cause irreversible damage to our planet.

Financing is also on the agenda. Developing countries need it in large quantities – up to a trillion dollars – to help reduce the impact of natural disasters, made worse by climate change.

But some wonder whether the U.S. re-election of Donald Trump, a climate change skeptic, will alter plans or even derail deals when he takes office in January.

So will politics play a role at this gathering?
