James’ return to the United States on 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way highlighted the biggest problem that I think could doom his marriage to Meitalia

It’s been a long time since I last watched a 90 Day Fiancé scenario that frustrates me as much as what I witness Jacques And Meitalia Solis. These newcomers from The other way Season 6 went through episodes with lots of tears and no resolution to if they would live in Indonesia or return to the United States. Everything came to a head again in the last episode, and I honestly think it could doom their marriage.

Typically, when I spot a problem early in a couple’s story, I’m optimistic that there will be some growth at the end. But once again we encountered James’ terrible way of communicatingand perhaps that’s when he sparked the beginning of the end of their relationship.

James bought a ticket to the United States, thinking he could pressure Meitalia to leave

Just one episode later Meitalia said she would come back in the United States, but only if his sister Angel could also come on a sponsored visa, James responded by purchasing a ticket home. By his own admission, he assumed that Meitalia would feel compelled to return to the United States until they could find a more permanent plan to live in Indonesia.

What he didn’t expect was that Meitalia would refuse a return ticket, hoping that it would convince her husband to stay in Indonesia longer. Meitalia said she would have been ready if he had agreed to bring Angel to the United States, but given that he was adamantly opposed to that, she feared that his return to the United States would mean that she would not return maybe never in Indonesia.

This resulted in no one getting what they wanted and honestly James left Indonesia in a terrible place with Meitalia. Even if the end result was the same, using communication to talk it out more effectively rather than dramatically buying a ticket and imposing an ultimatum was not the right way to handle the issue. Unfortunately, given his condition manipulated by avoiding talking about children or quitting his job at the family business at the last minute, that seems to be how James operates on a regular basis.

James only told his parents he was leaving at the last minute

Readers didn’t really need past examples of James’ poor communication and conflict resolution skills because evidence of it appeared at just the right time. After learning everything that happened above, James goes on to say that neither of them told Meitalia’s parents that he was leaving for the United States and that they were going to drop him off in Jakarta under the pretext that it was a family train trip. It was an adventure that James knew his father-in-law had wanted to do for some time, so he thought it would lessen the impact of the news.

What he perhaps didn’t anticipate was that his father would immediately sense something was up when James walked towards the train with all his luggage. As such, he then decided it was time to tell them, leading to a train journey where they talked about this sudden news for most of the journey. The part that I felt 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way What was really missed was James turning his father-in-law’s fun day into an overwhelming day that ended with his daughter crying.

I know when I logged onto their social media earlier this season, it seemed like James and Meitalia were still together. That said, if I were to find out during the next unveiling of 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way than this separated married coupleI wouldn’t be surprised at all. The poor communication between them and the dramatic gestures cannot continue, and I fear the gap between them will only widen from afar. Maybe I’m wrong, and I hope we get more answers on this in the all-in-one.

90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way airs on TLC Mondays at 8 p.m. ET. I’m more than ready for a revealing host Shaun Robinson to dig into this season, so let’s hope she’s ready to ask James and Meitalia some tough questions.
