LeBron James still a transcendent talent, but the Lakers must protect him

LeBron James recorded the 115th triple-double of his career as the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Toronto Raptors, 123-103, on Sunday. The veteran forward played a starring role after Anthony Davis was forced to leave the game with an eye injury.

James, 39, continues to defy the aging process. He is one of the championship leaders in pick-and-roll points per possession as a ball handler, scoring 1.15 points per 100 possessions.

While speaking to the media after his 19-point, 10-rebound, 16-assist performance, James said he had “no choice” but to step up for his team if Davis wasn’t on. the land.

“I have no choice if AD goes down,” James said. “I have to put more responsibility on my shoulders. And try to make plays to help my team win… If I’ve seen one defense, I’ve seen them all. I’m just trying to be patient.”
