Community workshop held to discuss the redevelopment of the Hyatt Regency Hotel

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – Some changes are afoot for the Hyatt Regency Sarasota hotel. The hotel is located on Boulevard des Arts, a neighborhood that is no stranger to change.

Bay Park is one of many additions to the area providing space to walk, play, sit and relax. At a workshop Monday evening inside the Hyatt Hotel, residents asked dozens of questions regarding the hotel’s redevelopment.

According to Stantec Consulting Services Inc., the project includes removing the existing hotel and replacing it with two 18-story towers.

“The project includes the removal of the existing 294 hotel rooms, a 10,000 square foot ballroom and a 3,944 square foot restaurant and the construction of two 18-story towers totaling 166 hotel rooms, 224 condos, 7,000 square feet of ballroom and 4,700 square feet of retail space,” the notice states. .

Stantec spokespeople said the design complies with Sarasota city code and they will follow city guidelines. The speakers also stressed that if everything goes as planned, the old building would be demolished by the summer of 2025.
