Thailand declares additional public holidays to boost tourism-dependent economy

Thailand’s cabinet has approved two additional public holidays next year to encourage people to travel over long weekends to boost tourism and support Southeast Asia’s second-largest economy.

The special holidays of June 2 and August 11 next year, which will be on Mondays, will allow people to plan longer trips during these weekends, government officials said at a press briefing on Tuesday in Bangkok. The cabinet also declared January 2, 2026 as a public holiday, which will extend the New Year holiday to five days. Public holidays in 2025 will total 21 days, officials said.
