A MASTER The Professionals contestant served raw duck heart on last night’s show – and the judges refused to eat it.

Monday night’s BBC show saw four other chefs battle it out for a place in the final.

As part of the skills test, Rachide and Cristina had to try to impress Gregg Wallace, Monica Galetti and Marcus Wareing with a dish chosen by them.

They had to offer a five-spice duck breast accompanied by a duck heart skewer with an orange sauce.

As soon as Cristina was given the task, Marcus commented, “I don’t know if it’s a look of confusion or a look of confidence.”

The celebrity chef also pointed out that he thought she should have put the duck breast in the pan right away to cook it, but she continued cutting other pieces of meat.

She put the brisket and heart in the pan at the same time – but Marcus said they didn’t cook at the same time and there was no seasoning on either piece of meat.

Moments before serving it, Marcus then declared: “This duck is not going to be cooked.”

Gregg asked her to prepare the food and she asked how much time she had left.

The host told her 30 seconds, so she put the duck breast back into the pan and asked: “Is this duck breast not cooked?”

“Not as much as I would like,” Cristina confessed.

Fortunately, the duck breast was well cooked, but not the heart.

Monica said: “The heart skewers, you cooked them whole – which is fine, but they’re raw in the middle.

“You really have to treat it like a real protein…

“Water it and maybe put it in the oven.”

Monica left the heart on the side of the plate and didn’t eat it.

Facts about MasterChef

MASTERCHEF has been a staple BBC series for years – but what are the key details?

  • MasterChef launched on BBC One in 1990
  • It lasted until 2001, then was relaunched in 2005 as MasterChef Goes Large.
  • John Torode joined the revamped series in 2005, where he teamed with Gregg Wallace as hosts.
  • Controversial moments? In March 2018, Gregg refused to judge Zaleha Kadir Olpin’s slow-cooked chicken rendang dish, saying it was “not crispy enough and couldn’t be eaten.”

At the end of the show, it was revealed that Cristina and Rachide were leaving the competition.

This meant Pippa and Ian progressed to the quarter-finals.

Regular judge Marcus was blown away by the display of talent in this year’s skills test and called it one of the best he’s seen in the show’s past decade.

He also exclaimed: “This time a chef listened carefully to the brief, didn’t try too hard to impress, kept his cool and prepared a dish almost identical to the one I prepared.

“I can’t wait to see what they do next!”

Monica and Gregg return as judges this year alongside Michelin star chef Marcus.

This is Gregg’s tenth year in the role, and while reflecting on his time on MasterChef, he said: “It’s a privilege to be part of this show, it’s always changing and evolving, so the last 10 years have flown by.”

He then joked about his co-stars’ lack of appreciation, adding, “Even though Monica and Gregg didn’t give me a cake or a glass of champagne or anything to celebrate!”
