Still mild today, rain tonight

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – Mild weather continues the rest of the week, with tomorrow being the coolest (but seasonal) day due to morning rain and clouds clearing through the afternoon. While the weekend looks set to be dry and mild, there will be more clouds with another round of rain early next week and the first signs of winter for the 2nd half of the working week.

Take action:

  1. With rain developing this evening, many places will have rain for Wednesday’s morning commute, so allow yourself extra time for wet roads. The afternoon should be dry.
  2. While there is a very slight chance of rain for the second half of the weekend through Monday morning, the greatest chance of rain will develop Monday afternoon. Check back regularly for updates on the timing of this storm system.
  3. The models are starting to agree on our coldest air mass of the season to apply for the 2nd half of the next work week. Although uncertainty persists, be prepared for highs that could be closer to 50°, or even in the 40s, and lows near or below freezing. Additionally, IF precipitation is in the area, there is at least a chance of winter precipitation depending on when it occurs. Just be prepared to have to turn on the heat and at least find the ice scraper for your car due to freezing at night.

Yesterday was certainly a very nice day, it was warmer than expected and although it will be a few degrees cooler today, it will still be sunny, even with a breeze. In fact, winds will generally gust to 20 to 30 mph today, tonight and tomorrow with a small chance of reaching the 30 to 35 mph range tomorrow for a short period of time at any location then as a cold front strengthens.

Normal High: 57/Normal Low: 34
Normal High: 57/Normal Low: 34(WIBW)

Today: Although some clouds are possible, especially this afternoon, most areas will be sunny for most of the day. Highs in the 60s. Winds SE 5-15, gusts up to 25 mph.

This evening: Slight chance of rain between 9 p.m. and midnight, best chance of rain after midnight. Lows in the upper 40s to upper 50s. Winds SE 5-15, gusts around 25 mph.

Tomorrow: Rain continues mainly before 9 a.m. near and east of Highway 75 with a slight chance of showers until midday. Cloudy decreasing in the afternoon. Highs will be in the mid 50s to around 60° depending on how quickly the rain and clouds clear. Winds S/W 10-15, gusts around 25 mph.

Isolated storms cannot be ruled out with tonight/tomorrow’s storm system, but no severe weather is expected.

Thursday will be a nice day with highs in the 60s and light winds with Friday’s highs similar but with more breeze although still not as strong as today.

The weekend will remain mild with gusts around 30 mph Saturday and lighter winds Sunday but with a slight chance of drizzle possible. The best rain chances increase Monday night with dry conditions on Tuesday.

A strong cold front will move through Tuesday night into Wednesday, causing the current trend across all models (so confidence is up from yesterday) to be much colder for the 2nd half of the work week.
