Doug Pederson clears up aspect of Jaguars star’s injury condition

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence missed second NFL game of his career this weekcreating the question of when, and perhaps even if, he will return during the 2025 season.

At least that’s what happened last week, as several national analysts painted a potentially bleak picture for Lawrence amid his left shoulder injury.

“As Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence (left shoulder) continues to receive treatment and evaluate options for the future, sources say he is unlikely to play Sunday against the Vikings.
Lawrence was limited in practice yesterday and coach Doug Pederson would not comment on his status,” Ian Rapoport of NFL Network said last Thursday.

“No surgical operation is planned… There are several options immediately and in the long term. This is one of them. He is considered daily with a left shoulder”, Rapoport continued. “But while he considers those options, Trevor Lawrence probably won’t play Sunday. Mac Jones is the backup.”

Lawrence, of course, would miss the Week 10 game against the Minnesota Vikings. But on Monday, Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson dismissed the idea that Lawrence might need surgery and an extended layoff.

“There was no discussion about surgery, so I don’t know where that discussion came from. Nothing like that,” Pederson said.

Otherwise, Pederson didn’t provide much information on Lawrence’s status and his return timetable. That will surely come later as the week goes on, although signs could point to Jones starting for the second week in a row.

“It’s hard to say right now. We still have a few days left. I don’t have any definitive answers right now,” Pederson said.

In Week 10, Lawrence spent his day on the sideline wearing a helmet. Whether this will be repeated in week 11 remains to be seen; however, Lawrence still provided value even though he was not on the field.

“Yeah, I tell you what, he was really engaged yesterday. I’ve been helping Mac all day. We had some great conversations on the sidelines, things he saw. So yeah, it’s something that allows him to have a little bit of a different perspective, calmer eyes and see how the game is going,” Pederson said.
