Risk of rain increasing mid-week and end of week

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – Dry weather with some more sunshine is expected today. Clouds are building Wednesday and winds are increasing ahead of a cold front that will sweep through the area Wednesday evening into Thursday. Not only will this front bring some much-needed rain to Alabama, but it will also cool temperatures a bit on Friday and into the weekend.

Outside this morning we face clear skies. Temperatures are in the 50s and 60s with a light breeze. A little more sunshine is expected today with a light wind. Highs will warm into the upper 70s and drop into the 80s this afternoon. Mostly dry conditions are expected, although a scattered shower or two could develop across southern Alabama.

Winds increase a little tonight and some clouds will invade the area. Lows will hover in the upper 50s with mostly dry conditions persisting.

Clouds will form Wednesday and winds will become noticeable, coming from the east, around 10 to 15 mph, gusting at times. All this in anticipation of a strong cold front sweeping through the state Wednesday evening; this will bring our best chance of widespread rain in several weeks.

We are generally dry this weekend with lots of sunshine. Highs will be in the 70s and overnight lows in the 40s.

Long-range forecast models indicate rain chances will become more likely as we move into next week. Just an early warning for what we’ll be tracking a week from today.

Tropics Tracking: A cluster of storms in the Caribbean Sea, south of the Dominican Republic, has the potential to develop as it moves westward across the Caribbean this week and weekend. We will be watching!
