NHL Buzz: Pinto returns from injury for Senators against Maple Leafs

Colorado Avalanche

Kaapo Kahkonen was placed on waivers by the Avalanche on Monday with plans to send him to Colorado in the AHL.

The 28-year-old is 0-1-0 this season with a 4.12 goals-against average and .800 save percentage in one start, a 5-2 loss to the Lightning. Tampa Bay on October 30.

The Avalanche have had three goalies on the roster since Kahkonen was recalled from an AHL conditioning camp on Oct. 29. He had been sent to the AHL on October 24 and was 0-2-0 in two starts, posting a 2.57 ERA and a . 919 percent savings.

Kahkonen had already been claimed off waivers from the Winnipeg Jets by Colorado on October 11.

“We don’t know how this is going to turn out, do we? We’ve seen better from our goalies than we’ve seen here recently, and if they can elevate their game, great,” Colorado coach Jared Bednar said at the time. “And if Kahkonen can come in and play well, all the better. It’s about winning hockey games, and if we can get progressively better in any position, we’ll try to do it, especially when the risks are low.

Injured forwards Miles Wood (upper body) and Jonathan Drouin (upper body) each skated Monday morning, but there were no updates on either.

“They’ve been on the ice for a long time now, and they’re still not in the lineup,” Bednar said. “I’m not too excited until the jersey hangs in their stand on game night.”

Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog was also briefly on the ice Monday.

“I have no idea about that. He’s been on and off the ice for two years, Bednar said. –Ryan Boulding
