UK snow map shows region will be smothered by 18 inches before -9C freeze | Weather | News

New weather maps of the UK show much of the country is covered in snow ahead of a hard freeze which could see temperatures plummet to -9C.

WXCHARTS maps show that between 14cm and 19cm of snow could fall around Newcastle and across the whole of the North East on November 20, with snow depths of 16cm in North West Scotland, near Inverness.

England could even get some snow, with 2cm predicted for cities like Manchester in the northwest.

Maps show heavy snow continued on November 21, with up to 27cm falling in northern Scotland, with the rest of the UK turning purple, suggesting millions of Britons could be affected. Londoners could even see some snowfall.

This snow trend continues until November 22, with an area in the far north of Scotland expected to be hit by more than 30cm, and a small area of northwest England and northern Wales is also expected to receive rainfall.

Additionally, UK temperature maps turn an icy blue at this time, suggesting millions of Brits could be affected by a bitter freeze.

Latest weather maps show the coldest weather will be felt around midnight on November 23, which could see the mercury drop as low as -10C in an area between Manchester and Newcastle, with lows of -9C C in the north of Scotland.

Elsewhere in England, tens of millions of Britons could find themselves freezing in temperatures ranging from 0°C to -8°C.

THE Met OfficeThe long-range forecast for November 17-26 states: “Becoming more unsettled and significantly colder as we head into the weekend with rain or showers for most areas, the heaviest rain events and the most common are likely to be in the north where they are likely to become wintry, particularly towards the hills of Scotland, but perhaps also to lower levels in the far north as colder air digs towards the south.

“The risk of widespread or disruptive snowfall affecting more populated areas at this stage, however, remains low.

“Less certainty for the south but even here there is a chance of more organized rain, and potentially snow on the hills.

“Often windy, with occasional risk of gales, especially in the north and east. Temperatures fall below average and are particularly cold in strong winds.”
