On November 12, a New York judge delayed his ruling on whether President-elect Donald Trump’s conviction could withstand the Supreme Court’s presidential immunity ruling. Judge Juan Merchan agreed to freeze the case until Nov. 19, allowing prosecutors to respond to Trump’s request that the case be dismissed entirely now that he is president-elect. Trump’s sentencing, which would be the first of a former president, is scheduled for November 26. He was convicted of 34 counts of falsifying business records in connection with a hush money payment to porn actor Stormy Daniels before the 2016 election to cover up an affair, which he denies.
