NHL: Winnipeg Jets in New York to face Rangers

After a home game marked by two shutouts and four straight wins, the Winnipeg Jets are looking to take that success to the road, as they will play one home game for the remainder of November.

The extended road trip begins in New York on Tuesday as the Jets take on the Rangers.

The Rangers are off to a good start to the season, as are the Jets, going 9-3-1 through their first 13 games, good enough for 10th in the NHL.

“We know they are one of the lightest teams in the East. They can score goals, they have the ability to transition quickly and they have elite players,” said the Jets head coach Scott Arniel.

“As we’ve talked about against other teams that are like that, that rushed game, we have to eliminate how much we allow them to do that second wave that comes with (Adam) Fox and the defense. Obviously we have to ensure the numbers come back and stop them as much as possible.”

The Jets have already played a lot of hockey in the first month and a half of the season and have plenty more to play in November with nine more games on the schedule.

Even with all the hockey coming up in the near future for Winnipeg, Arniel said his team has been very good at just focusing on the game at hand and putting all previous performances aside.

“That’s the case every other night, and you can’t get caught up in what you just did or what’s ahead of you. You have to worry about your next opponent, and for us, that’s the Rangers from New York. And these guys we did a great job of resetting. Every opponent plays a little different, they attack you in different ways. it’s New York. go out and get two points.

There will be a change at backcourt for the Jets as Logan Stanley did not travel with the team due to injury. He was placed on injured reserve retroactive to November 9.

Haydn Fleury will thus make his return to the lineup, his first action since the first four games of the season.

He said the most important part of the game for him was keeping things simple.

“I was just saying, try that first change, make a bump or do something, make a strong pass, something like that, wherever it is. Get into the game, and after that the game slows down, and it’s you go from there,” Fleury said.

Connor Hellebuyck will be in net for the Jets as they attempt to improve their league-leading record to 15-1-0 starting at 6 p.m. at Madison Square Garden.
