The Last Airbender Season 2 Introduces Former Supporter, More

“Avatar: The Last Airbender” continues to expand its Season 2 cast, now featuring alumni from “The Sympathizer” and “Brothers Sun.”

Hoa Zuande – who had a breakout role in “The Sympathizer” alongside Robert Downey Jr. earlier this year – has been cast as Professor Zei for the second season. Justin Chien from “Brothers Sun” got the role of King Kuei.

These aren’t the only new additions to the second season. Chin Han joins Long Feng, Amanda Zhou as Joo Dee, Crystal Yu as Lady Beifong, Kelemete Misipeka as The Boulder, Lourdes Faberes as General Sung and Rekha Sharma as Amita.

Netflix previously announced during Geeked Week 2024 that fan-favorite Earthbender Toph would be played by Miya Cech. Toph is a blind earthbending prodigy who ends up joining Avatar Aang (Gordon Cormier), Katara (Kiawentiio), and Sokka (Ian Ousley).

The series is a live-action adaptation of the beloved Nickelodeon animated series of the same name. It takes place in a world full of “benders”, or people capable of manipulating one of the four elements – earth, fire, water, air – and the Avatar who is a reincarnated being capable of controlling all the elements. The story begins as the Fire Nation takes steps to control the other realms and hunt down the Avatar who is the only person capable of stopping them.

Season 1 of “Avatar: The Last Airbender” was a big win for Netflix. It racked up 2.56 billion minutes in its first four days and reached number 1 in the Nielsen rankings. This led to Netflix announcing not only a season 2 renewal, but also a season 3 renewal.

TheWrap reviewer Karama Horne was featured prominently on the series when it debuted in late February 2024.

“Overall, Netflix’s ambitious ‘Avatar’ serves as a captivating passing of the torch – honoring fans of the acclaimed original while introducing a new generation to its complex world,” Horne wrote. “I hope the climatic finale is just the first chapter in an ongoing live-action saga.”
