Last June, Blancpain launched the very first entirely ceramic version of a Diver of fifty fathoms.

The ultra-modern and ultra-resistant version of the original diving watch took the ceramic Bathyscaphe Fifty Fathoms – which already existed – and added a new all-ceramic bracelet. To celebrate this launch, the brand has also launched a brand new ceramic Bathyscaphe featuring a full calendar and moon phase complications.

Although it’s only been a few months since Blancpain launched what is arguably the best ceramic bracelet in the industry, its success is evident, as evidenced by the fact that the world’s oldest watch brand has just expanded its line into ceramic Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe in 50 percent.

Dial it

Before the current expansion, the brand made ceramic Bathyscaphes in the form of an aforementioned complete calendar with a black, green or blue dialaccompanied by a flyback chronograph version with green or black dial. The most affordable iteration of the ceramic Bathyscaphe – the time and date model – was only available with a black dial.

But now Blancpain gives you more options. The brand has added two additional colorways for the basic three-hand ceramic Bathyscaphe, as it now fits the full calendar with green and blue dials. Both new dial colors feature a sunburst finish and look spectacular when contrasted with their matte black. ceramic enclosures.

For good measure, the brand also launched the Flyback Chronograph with a blue dial, meaning all three models in the ceramic Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe line are now available in all three colors.

The tough get tougher

The ceramic Blancpain uses for its Bathyscaphe is 25% lighter than stainless steel and five times harder, meaning it is both incredibly comfortable and should stay like new forever.

Although the use of case material is not very new, several other brands make dive watches with ceramic cases, with Bremont being the last to do so — The Blancpain ceramic bracelet is truly something special.

It benefits from a patented construction featuring links held together by cam-shaped pins and connected by titanium screws. The shape of the pins allows for extremely tight tolerances without hindering movement, allowing the bracelet to flow organically. It feels like silk on the wrist.

Perfection is not cheap

The bracelet is available as an option on any of the nine Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe Ceramic models, and given its uniqueness, it would be my choice. But the bracelet is quite expensive.

The Flyback Chronograph and Complete Calendar each cost $26,000 on the strap, while the three-hand model costs $21,300. The same models only cost $18,400 and $13,700 on one model NATO strap or sailclothrespectively, meaning the bracelet effectively costs $7,600 on its own.

This means that the bracelet alone costs more than one Omega Seamaster Diver 300M on a steel bracelet ($5,900), with enough cash to pick up a Zodiac Super Sea Wolf Compression Diver ($1,695). In other words, it is a very expensive bracelet. But if you want bragging rights with the ultimate wrist dive watch, there’s arguably no better one.
