Dupont ready to be fit for New Zealand despite illness

Olympic sevens gold medalist Dupont, 27, trained separately from the rest of the team, but alongside second row Thibaud Flament and prop Uini Atonio, ahead of Saturday’s match.

Dupont returned to action at 15 in last week’s win over Japan for the first time in a year, having prioritized the short form of the sport.

“Antoine was slightly ill yesterday,” Servat said.

“He will train tomorrow as usual,” added the former French hooker.

Flament is also expected to be fit to face the All Blacks, while giant back-rower Atonio will miss the match against his homeland with a calf problem.

Atonio was absent for the 52-12 victory over the Brave Blossoms due to the same injury, but could return to face Argentina on November 22.

“Uini is still on his way back. We wanted to keep him with us, he’s someone we count on,” Servat said.

“It is almost certain that Uini will only be able to play next week.”

Flanker François Cros and winger Damian Penaud were ruled out of facing the All Blacks earlier today.

Charles Ollivon, who was Fabien Galthie’s original captain when he first took charge in 2020, is expected to occupy the back row alongside Paul Boudehent and Gregory Alldritt.

Ollivon’s Toulon teammate, Gabin Villière, should replace Penaud.

Penaud retired late from the match against Japan with Theo Attissogbe starting, but the Pau winger now has a knee problem.

Experienced center Gael Fickou is likely to replace Emilien Gailleton.

Galthie will name his team to face the three-time Rugby World Cup winners on Thursday.
