Another dry day before the rain returns

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) – We are halfway through the week and at the end of a brief period of dry weather. More rain is coming, but before we see anything, it’s shaping up to be a very pleasant day in the Mid-Ohio Valley. First, we face a pretty cold morning as temperatures across the region start around or below freezing. Unlike yesterday, we will feel a noticeable warming up at the start of the afternoon. Much of the area will rise back into the low 60s for today’s afternoon high.

Thursday will be a completely soggy day as our next system arrives from the west. Rain will become more likely in the Mid-Ohio Valley after midnight this evening and will continue through the morning. Those on the road for tomorrow’s morning commute will need to be especially careful as some heavy downpours will reduce visibility and cause puddles on the roads. So plan to leave for work or school a little earlier so you can take your time on the road.

Even though the rain will make things complicated on Thursday, this rain will be very useful. Most of the rain will likely fall throughout the morning, then become more scattered towards the afternoon. Once the rain ends, the entire Mid-Ohio Valley will easily exceed a half-inch of rain total and some locations could see up to an inch of rain. This will help combat the current drought, especially as we have already received an inch of rain since last Sunday. However, the drought tracker to be released Thursday morning will not include any rain totals from the early morning hours.

A few lingering showers will be possible Friday, but overall we’ll dry out as we head into the weekend. We will be quiet all weekend and until the beginning of next week. However, our weather pattern begins to become more active around the middle of next week. We could potentially see another chance of rain around the middle of next week.
