Northern Ontario man and woman arrested following death of 3-month-old baby

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged two people from the northern Ontario community of King Kirkland in connection with the death of a three-month-old infant in September 2022.

Police say they responded to a call from emergency services in Chamberlain Township near Englehart on September 3, 2022, regarding a three-month-old infant with no vital signs. Paramedics took the baby to a local hospital where the infant was pronounced dead.

Police say they conducted an extensive investigation following the baby’s death, leading to arrests this week in King Kirkland, a small village just east of Kirkland Lake.

On November 12, they charged a 32-year-old man with second-degree murder, criminal negligence causing death and failure to provide the necessities of life.

Police also charged a 33-year-old woman with criminal negligence causing death and failure to provide basic necessities.

Both defendants are in custody and are due to appear in court on November 13.
