Why Colts’ Anthony Richardson is ‘quiet and happy’ to be benched

Indianapolis Colts second-year quarterback Anthony Richardson has spent the last two games as a spectator on the bench but he will start when the 4-6 Colts play the 3-7 New York Jets next Sunday.

Richardson spoke to reporters Wednesday about what he learned during his demotion.

“It showed that I’m ready to be a pro and I’m willing to sacrifice whatever I have to do for the team,” Richardson explained, as shared by Kevin Bowen from Indianapolis The Fan’s 93.5/107.5. “I feel like these last two weeks have certainly I opened my eyes to do that and I THE possibility of having a deeper dive to peek inside and see what I’m made of. I am grateful for these last two weeks. I’m low-key, glad they happened.”

James Boyd of The Athletic noted that Richardson ranked last in the league in several categories when head coach Shane Steichen made veteran Joe Flacco his starter in Week 9. said, Evan Frank of the Indianapolis Star pointed out that former Colts punter and current media personality Pat McAfee strongly suggested on Wednesday’s edition of “The Pat McAfee Show” that Steichen sat Richardson down because the The 22-year-old had upset his teammates and/or other members of the organization by taking himself out of the club’s Week 8 loss to the Houston Texans because he was “fatigue.”

Richardson received criticism throughout the NFL community for either be out of shape or temporarily abandon your teammates this Sunday afternoon.

“He’s back on the field,” McAfee said of Richardson. “He learned his lesson.”

Meanwhile, Richardson revealed Wednesday that he has spent the past two weeks focused on “sacrificing more” for others in the locker room.

“If the guys ask me to do certain things and even if I don’t want to do them, I have to do it because it’s a sacrifice. If they do it, why not do it? I’m just showing them that I can do my job, day in and day out, consistently,” Richardson said. “As a pro, you’re like, ‘OK, I’m doing my job, I’m doing it.’ That’s enough. But it’s never enough, especially not for veterinarians. They feel like if they have to do the extra work, you have to do it too. This is how it should be.”

We must not forget that Richardson just do 13 college starts at Florida and has so far logged just 10 regular season starts since the Colts made him the fourth overall pick in the 2023 draft. He’s learning on the job that being QB1 for a NFL franchise is a Sunday-Saturday effort.

Richardson NFL Stats are downright terrible, but the Colts are probably I hope this experience proves to be a career springboard for the signalman.
