Bears’ Keenan Allen Gives Direct Reason for Shane Waldron’s Firing

It’s often said that nice guys finish last, and it seems Bears wide receiver Keenan Allen subscribes to that theory.

Chicago fired first-year offensive coordinator Shane Waldron earlier this week in hopes it could help spark a change with the Bears at 4-5.

When Allen was asked what he thought about what was wrong with Waldron’s tenure, he gave an honest, if unorthodox, answer.

“I would probably say he was too nice a guy,” Allen said, according to the Chicago Tribune. “I think during OTAs, training camp, he kind of fell into the trap of letting things go, of not holding people accountable. Obviously these things lead to a slippery slope.

The Bears have struggled to produce much success under Waldron with the NFL’s 30th-ranked offense and allowing a league-worst 38 sacks.

Chicago has lost three straight games since its bye week ended and has scored a total of 12 points in its last two games, including a 19-3 loss to the Patriots on Sunday.

Allen is part of the group hoping the change at OC — which now has passing game coordinator Thomas Brown at the helm — can turn the team’s fortunes around while their playoff hopes are still alive.

“Better early than late.” We need to make some things happen. he said. “So what if it doesn’t happen, then?” Insanity, man, we all know that definition. SO. We just need to make this change and see what happens.

The Bears hope to make up some ground over the next few weeks as they are scheduled to face the Packers in Week 11, the Vikings in Week 12 and the Lions in Week 13, essentially in line with the teams ahead . including some in the NFC North.
