The Detroit Tigers could be a great candidate for All-Star infielder on the trading block

THE Detroit Tigers are heading into the offseason with the aggressive pursuit of improving roster weak spots at the top of their list of goals.

During the Detroit special in which they overcame long difficulties to qualify for the playoffs and eliminate the Houston Astros During the Wild Card round, the two corner spots on the field were major issues and were highlighted as the top spots the Tigers could try to fix.

When it comes to third base, many have linked Detroit at the top of available options and one of the best in the game in the Astros superstar Alex Bregman.

On the surface, this possibility makes a lot of sense given that the Tigers have money to spend and the clubhouse appeal of a winning player like Bregman, but if Scott Harris wants to get creative, there might be another possibility that would cost a fraction of the price – albeit in the commercial market rather than the free market.

This week, Jeff Passan, ESPN MLB Insider wrote that he believed that Philadelphia Phillies placed an All-Star third baseman Alex Bohm on the trading bloc as they look to revamp things in their lineup. Emma Lingan of the Motor City Bengals thinks Bohm could be a perfect fit in Detroit if the team doesn’t want to spend on Bregman or if he decides to stay in Houston.

“Bohm is only 28 years old and will bring in around $8 million in 2025,” Lingan wrote. “He won’t be a free agent until 2027, so the additional years of team control would be particularly attractive to a team like the Tigers looking to rely on their young core for success sustainable in 2025 and beyond. . However, that also means the Phillies won’t want to move on from him unless they get a significant upgrade. »

Bohm was benched for the postseason after a rough end to the season, but overall, 2024 was the best season of his five-year MLB career. A good player who, for his production, would cost next to nothing for the next two seasons, would be a fantastic consolation prize for Detroit fans who might be upset if the team ultimately fails to land Bregman.

As rumor season begins to heat up, keep an eye on the Tigers on the trade market for Bohm.
