11 reasons why trail running is better than road running

Like many people, I started as a road runner and ended up 5k races10 km and half marathons, but then I discovered the joys of running and I never looked back. In fact, I avoid road running whenever I can and always take the trail option. Here are 11 reasons why I think trail running is better than road running.

1. My joints and muscles appreciate me much more

Much of road running – especially on tarmac – is a repetitive movement that uses the same muscles over and over again. This means I end up with too much pain in my joints, muscles and ligaments. Even when I am tips to avoid running injuriesmy body does not cope well with slight variations in terrain and pace. This is especially true as I get older and hit menopause.
