Rainy Thursday brings much-needed moisture to Eastern Kentucky

HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) – After a dry October, November was wetter than average. This much-needed precipitation will help tremendously with the drought here in Appalachia.

SECURITIES:

  • Rainy Thursday
  • Rain eases Friday
  • Dry weekend ahead

DISCUSSION:

The movement of the warm front provides the moisture we are seeing today. Rain started last night and is gripping eastern Kentucky through your Thursday. With the cold front moving in after the rain, rain chances will diminish during Friday morning, leaving most of your Friday afternoon dry. This will also allow you to enjoy a dry weekend with mild temperatures.

Temperatures this week will return to normal starting today. The seasonal high temperatures are around 58 for this time of year, which is our high today in Hazard. We will stay in the mid to upper 50s until Sunday when we start to warm up again. Warmer air will usher in the upper 60s through Tuesday.

LOOKING TO THE FUTURE:

The drier weather this weekend will end with the resumption of a new wave of rain Monday afternoon. These rain chances are minimal at the moment, but we can expect them to intensify as we get into the middle of the week.

Temperatures will take the impact of this second round of rain, as we drop from the upper 60s on Tuesday to the low 60s on Wednesday, and get even cooler on Thursday with high temperatures in the low 50s.

Enjoy your Thursday!
