Mother of 2-month-old girl dies after ‘tragic’ golf cart accident: police

The mother of a 2-month-old girl has died in Maryland two days after she was injured in a tragic incident involving a golf cart, police confirmed.

On Saturday, November 9 at approximately 7:24 p.m. local time, officers with the Anne Arundel County Police Department were called to the 600 block of Maid Marion Hill in Annapolis to assist an injured person, according to a report. release.

“A preliminary investigation revealed that Mary Blasetti suffered life-threatening injuries during an incident involving an EZ-GO golf cart,” police said. They added that Blasetti was “airlifted to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland” before she died from her injuries on Monday, November 11.

Police identified Blasetti, 32, of Annapolis as the passenger in the cart, in the release, but did not name the driver of the vehicle, who was a 32-year-old woman from Crownsville.

Justin Mulcahy of the Anne Arundel County Police Department said of the tragic incident, “It seems like at some point they hit kind of a low point, and at that point it passenger was ejected from this golf cart or ejected from the golf cart”, according to WJZ News.

“This is an extremely tragic and unfortunate situation,” Mulcahy continued, the outlet reported. “Our hearts go out to everyone affected and we’re going to continue to investigate with the State Attorney’s Office just to determine what exactly happened here.”

Mulcahy did not immediately respond when contacted by PEOPLE for additional information.

Relatives started a GoFundMeconfirming that Blasetti had been involved in “a tragic accident,” adding that she “leaves behind her husband, Nick Blasetti, and their 2-month-old daughter, Mary Katharine Blasetti.”

The GoFundMe added that Mary Beth and her husband Nick recently purchased their first home together in Annapolis.
