5 Improvements I’d Love to See on the Moto Razr+ 2025

I’m a big fan of Motorola Razr+ (2024); Moto made several improvements to last year’s model, including a larger external display and a reinforced hinge. It’s a fantastic flip phoneand I prefer it to the Galaxy Z Flip 6; it’s also sleeker and I like using the outer screen for apps without messing with Good Lock.

As much as I like the Moto Razr+ (2024), there are a few things I’d like to see included in next year’s phone. Here’s what would be on my wish list for 2025.

More reliable software updates

Moto must find consistency

I spoke at length about Motorola Software Support Issues. The company seems to vacillate between too few years of promised support and extremely slow update cycles when support is offered. I won’t repeat the same arguments because I’m actually a fan of Motorola hardware. However, I would like the company to be consistent with the Moto Razr+ (2025).

I’m not asking Motorola to match the seven years of software support we offer at Samsung and Google; I’m OK with four or five years of promised Android upgrades, but I wish Motorola would release monthly or bi-weekly updates and stick to it.

It would also be appreciated if Moto releases Android version upgrades within 12 months of all other Android OEMs. I’m tired of getting an Android 14 update a few months after everyone else gets an Android 15 upgrade.

I would like a higher IP rating

Better peace of mind against the elements

An IPX8 rating was a good start for the Moto Razr+ (2024). This meant I could take my flip phone out in the rain and even splash water on it without worrying about it melting. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6, however, surpassed the Moto Razr+ for 2024 with its IP48 rating. It’s not a huge difference, but I wish the Razr+ (2025) had a dust resistance rating.

An IP48 rating adds peace of mind and would make me believe that the hinge on my $1,000 smartphone will continue to work even if I carry it in my pocket. My wife can attest that my pockets are a lint museum and I always worry about fine particles getting into my Moto Razr+. If I want articles on next year’s model, a better IP rating is on the list.

All the flagship power I could want

Let’s hope Moto goes for the big boy

I’m generally not impressed by iterative improvements to chipsets year after year. I barely use the power offered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, so a 10% or 15% performance increase doesn’t change things. I think this year could be a different story with the Snapdragon 8 Elite; if Qualcomm keeps its promises, which OnePlus 13 the criteria suggests, 2025 could be an exciting year.

App developers have yet to get involved in releasing desktop-quality programs for mobile platforms, and they are still far from being fully adopted by game developers, but a Snapdragon 8 Elite and Smart Connect in the Moto Razr+ (2025) could be amazing. Smart Connect (formerly Ready For) is already a powerful tool, and I’d like to see what we can do with it with the additional power available.

Eco-leather needs an upgrade

Mine is not doing well

I don’t want this to turn into petty territory, but I do want Motorola to use a better eco-leather material on the Moto Razr+ (2025). My 2023 model is still in fantastic shape and the bright red coloring looked great in the hand. You would never know I used it a lot without a case. But something has changed with this year’s model.

Maybe it’s just the Hot Pink variant, but the eco-leather back of my Razr+ (2024) looks worse with wear. The material feels discolored to the touch, and every bit of dust and lint sticks to it. It’s a minor criticism, but I’m a firm believer in small quality of life improvements that translate into significant changes in the way phones are perceived. I would love to see Motorola go back to the old eco-leather material for the Razr+ (2025).

A return for the ultra-wide lens

I would like to see Moto go back

Motorola isn’t the first company to sacrifice an ultra-wide lens for 2x optical zoom in dual-camera setups. Many prefer a 2x optical zoom because of how it enhances portrait images; Zooming adds depth to the image and allows you to center your subject without losing detail, especially when your subject is closer. I understand the benefits and arguments for it, but I prefer an ultra-wide lens.

I like to capture more images, and an ultra-wide lens is useful for group photos and getting more background context for your images. I hate fighting to fit everything into the frame, and an ultra-wide lens gives me plenty of canvas to work with. It comes down to personal preference, but I appreciate the added versatility of an ultra-wide sensor over the narrow utility of a 2x optical zoom.

It should be fantastic no matter what.

I don’t have any major complaints about the Moto Razr+ this year. It is one of the best Motorola phones released, and it’s the best flip phone you can buy in the United States. This makes the Galaxy Z Flip 6 feel like it was designed ten years ago. I love the larger external display and I’m grateful that Moto has finally given us a true always-on display.

However, it’s healthy to dream, and I think if Moto added a few of these suggestions, it would make the Razr+ (2025) even better. Either way, I’m looking forward to another great device next year, let’s just hope Moto offers Hot Pink again.
