Sudbury News: Police say suspect on probation crashed into stolen vehicle while impaired

A 26-year-old Greater Sudbury man has been charged with several offenses after Ontario Provincial Police investigated a collision Wednesday morning.

Police responded around 11:40 a.m. to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 17 in Markstay-Warren.

Although there were no injuries, investigators quickly realized that the Sudbury driver had not only given them a false name, but they also appeared to be impaired.

“This driver was arrested and then transported back to the OPP detachment for further testing,” the OPP said in a news release Thursday.

The investigation revealed the true identity of the suspect and that the vehicle had been stolen. Charges include impaired driving, refusal to comply with a request, possession of stolen property over $5,000, failure to comply with probation orders, two counts of driving while disqualified and three counts of driving while suspended.

The accused was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on November 14 in Sudbury.
