It’s early in the season, but an unbeaten record is still guaranteed when the 2-0 Notre Dame Fighting Irish take on the 2-0 Georgetown Hoyas at Capital One Arena on Saturday afternoon. It’s part of a busy weekend of college basketball on NBC and peacockincluding a quadruple header Friday headlined by Alabama vs. Purdue and Arizona vs. Wisconsin.

This is the first away game of the season for the Notre Dame team, which is in its second year under the direction of the head coach. Micah Shrewsberry. Notre Dame’s roster is led by a roster of local talent, including the 2023-24 ACC Rookie of the Year. Markus Burton from Mishawaka, Indiana, and Tae Davis of Indianapolis, who scored 27 points in his team’s last game, a victory against Buffalo on November 11. Like Georgetown, Notre Dame also struggled last season, finishing the year 13-20 thanks in part to a brutal series of conference losses in January and February that dropped them to 13th in the ACC. They hope to continue the rebuild in the second year of Shrewsberry’s tenure.

Georgetown team is led by a freshman phenom Thomas Sorber, a four-star recruit from the Philadelphia area who had 20-plus points in each of his first two games with the Hoyas. “I always go to the coach when I see games and tell him to give him the ball,” junior guard Jayden Epps, one of the team’s veteran leaders, said of Sorber. “As we can see, I don’t think anyone can keep him there, especially when he does what he’s supposed to do and gets a good post position.”
