Red flag warnings return Friday

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) – After a frosty start this morning with teens and early 20s, we only rebounded into the 40s today. It’s certainly a cool November day with incredibly dry air for this time of year – dew points have been below 0 for a while!

High pressure will keep us very dry tonight, but high clouds from a storm system to the west will persist and even thicken. Partly cloudy to mostly cloudy skies should help keep temperatures in the 20s Friday morning, but if they clear up enough we could see more teens. The breezes remain light.

Friday will be a First day of weather alert due to another red flag warning issued for our region. Northwest breezes will increase to 10-15 mph with gusts up to 20-25 mph and our relative humidity is expected to remain around 20-40%, resulting in a high fire danger. Temperatures will be milder with highs reaching the mid 50s in the valley with good sunshine and scattered high clouds.

The low pressure returning to the northwest Atlantic will unfortunately not bring us any rainy weather Friday or Friday evening and as high pressure persists to our west, it will also become windy on Saturday. Red flag warnings will likely continue as wind gusts could reach 30 mph Saturday due to the tight pressure gradient in the region between the high and low.

Milder temperatures return this weekend with highs around 60 Saturday and Sunday as well as plenty of sunshine – a rather pleasant weekend!

An upper-level disturbance will move into New England on Monday with more clouds and gusty breezes. There is a slight chance of a few showers, but little or no precipitation is expected. Windy conditions continue Tuesday and temperatures begin to return to the 50s reaching daily highs. Once again, the week promises to be dry with a touch of rain at the end of the week. However, lately nothing is happening. Hoping this one will be a winner.
