Billerica Police aim to improve community connections with new feedback tool

BILLERICA — The Billerica Police Department has launched a new text messaging solution designed to keep residents informed and gather feedback after non-life-threatening interactions with officers.

“Just as private businesses use tools to automatically send text notifications, updates and satisfaction surveys to their customers, the Billerica Police Department is now able to do the same,” the chief said. Roy Frost in a press release announcing this announcement. “We hope this new solution, PowerEngage, will significantly improve communication with the citizens we serve. »

Following an incident, residents will receive a text message within a few hours or days inviting them to complete a brief survey about their experience. The survey allows citizens to share their comments and reactions, and provides residents with the opportunity to express their gratitude to the responding officer.

With PowerEngage, SMS surveys are sent to people whose numbers are recorded during service calls or in agent reports. Additionally, all citizens are welcome to participate and provide feedback via the survey, even if they have done so. did not receive a text message.

Frost said in the release that the investigation will help the department improve quality control and ensure officers are professional and courteous.

“At the same time, the software will allow residents to thank officers for positive interactions and allow our department to relay important information to residents via text message,” Frost added.

Residents who prefer not to participate can ignore the text message or contact the department in advance at 978-671-0900 to permanently opt out. Additionally, replying “STOP” to any text will unsubscribe them from all future surveys. Police said it was crucial to emphasize that investigations are not intended to report emergencies or crimes.
