Holiday Fun in Sonoma Valley

Mark your calendar. Many holiday events are happening this season in the Sonoma Valley.

Ready or not, the holiday season is here. Now is the time to plan ahead to enjoy all the seasonal pleasures Sonoma Valley has to offer.

Veterans Holiday Market

Get a head start by shopping for unique gifts for the holiday season at the second annual Veterans Holiday Market Nov. 23-24 at the Sonoma Valley Veterans Memorial Building, 126 First Street West.

Organized by the Veterans for Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 1943, this market features artists from around North Bay offering unique, handmade items for sale.

Here are some of the many artists participating in the market: Blue Banana Studio (ceramics); Cathy Beck Photography (note cards and prints); Objects embroidered by Jeanie (potholders and zipped bags).

Proceeds from this event will help local veterans in need.

The two-day event is free and open to the public. Military and veteran families are encouraged to attend. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, November 23 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, November 24.

Bohemian Circus

Bohemian Circus presents a Disco-themed show Nov. 29-Dec. 29 at Cornerstone Sonoma, 23570 Arnold Drive.

The show features gravity-defying acrobatics, balancing acts and mimes in this show inspired by 1920s French circus tradition – think Moulin Rouge, but with a holiday twist.

Show times are 1 p.m., 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. Cost: $45 for adults, $38 for children 15 and under.

Lighted Tractor Parade

The Sonoma Lighted Tractor Parade, a sparkling new tradition continues for its second year on Saturday, November 30 at the Sonoma Plaza.

Tractors, trucks and agricultural vehicles decorated with hundreds of lights will parade on the square from 6:30 p.m.

The event is hosted by the Sonoma Valley Vintners & Growers Alliance, in partnership with the City of Sonoma.

Winter Art Market

For those who prefer to purchase gifts and other holiday items, the Sonoma Community Center’s Winter Art Market will take place from December 6 to 8 at the center.

The market features the work of over 50 artists showcasing a wide range of items from ceramics and fiber arts to painting, photography, jewelry, metalwork and woodworking.

Hours are 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. December 6; from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on December 7; and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on December 8. Sonoma Community Center members will have special advanced access to the sale from 4-5 p.m. on December 6.

Santa Claus on the Square

Santa Claus is coming to town on Friday, December 6th.

Soroptimist International of Sonoma Valley and Sonoma Valley Volunteer Firefighters Association invite the community to sip hot chocolate while waiting for Santa to ride onto the Plaza in an antique fire truck.

The evening begins at 4:30 p.m., with Santa arriving around 5:30 p.m.

Santa will light the tree atop City Hall and will be available to take photos and listen to children’s wishes for a Merry Christmas.

Sonoma hometown band

The Sonoma Hometown Band presents a holiday concert at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7 at the Sebastiani Theater, 476 1st St. E.

The playlist includes a number of holiday classics. Entrance is free. Visit sebastianitheatre.com for more details.

Christmas Craft Fair at Faith Lutheran Church

Shop a variety of handcrafted gifts at the Faith Lutheran Church Christmas Craft Fair, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, December 7.

Items for sale include fashion accessories, home goods and handmade gifts. Homemade treats will be on sale to enjoy on site or to take away.

There will be a Ukrainian art fundraiser, as well as free “selfies” with Santa.

Glen Ellen Holiday Wine Route

A festive weekend of wine tasting in Glen Ellen will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, December 7 and Sunday, December 8 at wineries during the Glen Ellen Holiday Wine Trail.

The cost is $10 per tasting at a vineyard. Wineries include Dane Cellars, Eric Ross, Laurel Glen Vineyard, Passaggio, Schermeister Winery and Talisman.

Lights of Remembrance

By the health of the Bay is hosting its 39th annual Memorial Lights tree lighting at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 8 at the Sonoma Hospice Tree, located in the southeast corner of Sonoma Plaza.

By the Bay Health – which provides in-home end-of-life care – is hosting the candlelight ceremony in an effort to bring some comfort to those still grieving.
