Smart device ownership continues to grow, but usage declines

NEW DELHI: Smart device ownership continues to grow in India, with smartphones remaining at the heart of the connected consumer ecosystem, according to a new report from Techarc. However, the study, titled Techarc’s India Connected Consumer 2025, found a decline in the actual usage of certain categories of smart devices.

The report reveals that people own multiple smart devices, but do not actively use them. The relevance of some devices diminishes over time, he adds. On average, 27% of respondents said they have stopped using or reduced their use of at least one of the smart devices they own.

Consumers are increasingly focused on improving the value proposition of their devices by improving features, quality and overall user experience, rather than increasing the number of smart devices they own.

Among emerging categories, smart and connected cars are attracting significant interest. Consumers are particularly keen to understand how artificial intelligence can improve the relevance and functionality of smart devices across various industries.

Changing consumer preferences

Faisal Kawoosa, chief analyst and founder of Techarc, noted that while it is encouraging to see smart devices becoming an integral part of our technology-driven lifestyle, there is a notable decline in interest for some products, which has an impact on the growth prospects of certain categories. in India.
