TCU volleyball falls short against No. 12 Kansas

For the only time this season, No. 18 TCU faced one of the best teams in the Big 12, the 12th Kansas Jayhawks. The Frogs have never won in Lawrence and that streak would continue Wednesday as TCU fell in four sets.

It was an offensive nightmare for TCU as they hit a season low of .134. The first set saw both teams tied as TCU led by one before the media break. Several TCU offensive errors put Kansas back in front. Two service errors from the Frogs and two kills from Toyosi Onabanjo sealed the deal.

Kansas managed to carry their momentum into the second set, taking an early 10-4 lead. Horned frogs rarely go down without a fight, as Melanie Parra And Alexis Roberson tried to get their team back in the game, but the deficit was too big to make up. A service error Jalyn Gibson finished the second set falling 25-21.

Looking to avoid the sweep, TCU came out all guns blazing in the third set. The defense flipped a switch, forcing the Jayhawks to commit six consecutive offensive errors, giving the Frogs a 7-0 lead. Parra got into the system and racked up several kills that propelled them to a 25-15 victory. TCU also landed four service aces in the set.

Unfortunately, Kansas ended any momentum TCU was able to muster. An 8-0 run was the nail in the coffin and the Jayhawks won 25-17.

Jalyn Gibson led the way offensively with 19 kills while Parra finished with 16. Evan Hendrix organized a good match with 10 kills and 19 recoveries. However, it was a struggle all night on the offensive end. It was a very unusual night for Jason Williams team.

TCU falls to 17-6 and 9-4 in conference play. They are tied for fourth with Utah in the Big 12 standings. With five games remaining, a spot in the conference’s top 3 is certainly still in play. The Frogs will finish their road trip in Kansas on Friday as they face Kansas State at 6:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
