Takeaway: Islanders play complete game in 5-2 win over Canucks

The New York Islanders had a complete game on Thursday night, stifling the Vancouver Canucks with a 5-2 victory at Rogers Arena.

Jonathan Lekkerimaki opened the scoring for Vancouver, but after that it was all the Islanders who found the back of the net. JG Pageau (PPG), Scott Mayfield, Pierre Engvall, Anders Lee (1B, 1A) and Noah Dobson (ENG). Tyler Myers completed the scoring late, but by then the game was in the hands of the Islanders.

“Tonight was a huge team effort,” said head coach Patrick Roy. “It’s hard for me to single out anyone because everyone played so solid.”

Semyon Varlamov stopped 25 of 27 in the win, while Kevin Lankinen stopped 27 of 31 in the loss.

With this victory, the Islanders extended their point streak to five games (3-0-2).

“It’s really nice to finally be rewarded for playing the right way,” said Bo Horvat, who scored two assists in the victory. “We knew from the beginning that if we played the same way and that way, we would end up being rewarded.”
