Govt maintains law and order in first 100 days: Jahangir

Although restoring law and order was very difficult for the post-uprising administration, Home Advisor Lt Gen Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd) claimed that his ministry had succeeded in such a difficult task in 100 days of interim government.

“We have succeeded in maintaining law and order throughout the country. The current law and order situation in the country is now almost satisfactory due to the timely and prudent measures taken by the police administration. But it is possible to “improve the law and bring order to the situation,” he said recently in an interview with the national news agency at his office.

Regarding the success of the first 100 days of the Ministry of Interior under the caretaker government, he said that the most successful thing of his ministry was to bring public life back to normal after a chaotic situation created after the fall of the fascist regime on August 5.

The advisor also said that they had asked all parties concerned to mobilize all possible efforts nationwide to further improve law and order.

Responding to another question on anti-corruption measures, Jahangir warned against corruption and irregularities falling within the purview of his ministry, saying: “No one will be spared if found involved in corruption and irregularities.”

He recalled that 40 officials of the Interior Ministry at different levels were forced into retirement over the past three months.

To strengthen the police, he said it had recruited 3,500 constables and 1,200 sub-inspectors, along with a major reshuffle within the force with transfer from top to bottom.

“The process of recruiting more personnel into the police force is underway,” he said, adding that the three forces — the army, navy and air force — have been given powers to judiciary to help maintain public order throughout the country.

Regarding the peaceful holding of the Durga Puja as a success, he said, “It was our great success to organize the Durga Puja in the most peaceful and festive manner compared to previous years.”

Speaking to BSS, Principal Secretary Security Services Division D Mohammad Abdul Momen said that they had brought the law and order situation to a satisfactory level.

“We have brought public order to a satisfactory level in a fragile situation after the change of government on August 5, where the police were absent from their duties,” he said.

“If you compare the statistics between October 23 and 24, you will find that the law and order situation is much better now, because criminal acts, including murders and extortions, have decreased significantly,” he said. -he added.

Referring to remarks made by Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader that five Kh leaders and activists would be killed if their government fell, he said that now it can even be said that five leaders and activists of the AL have been killed since the ousting of the government. AL diet.

“Terrorists and extortionists have no political identity. They must be exposed to justice regardless of their political affiliation,” he added.

He said strict security measures have been taken at the borders to stop arms smuggling and drug trafficking, as well as illegal intrusion by nationals of neighboring countries, as well as control of passage illegal immigration of Bangladeshi nationals to neighboring countries.

The police have so far arrested 748 miscreants while they were crossing the borders of Bangladesh, he said, adding that 64 Indian nationals were also arrested while they entered the territory of Bangladesh illegally during the last three months.

On traffic management, he said a committee had been formed in the office of the Chief Advisor (CA) to look into the matter while the Ministry of Communication had been entrusted with the responsibility to pursue the matter further.

Responding to a question whether any visible change was taking place in the law enforcement agencies, he said: “Change is not a sudden affair. But changes are taking place gradually in the mentality of the police. law enforcement. But it will take time.”

The interim government took office on August 8, after the ouster of the fascist Awami League regime in the face of the July-August uprising.
