“Save Our CPP” campaign comes to Calgary with town hall meeting hosted by Public Interest Alberta

The “Save Our CPP” campaign took place in Calgary on Thursday evening.

The town hall meeting hosted by Public Interest Alberta gave the public the opportunity to hear an economist and pension researcher explain why Albertans should be wary of the UCP government’s proposal to withdraw from the Canada Pension Plan. Canada and opt for an Alberta pension plan.

The UCP said Alberta is entitled to $334 billion in CPP assets.

Canada’s chief actuary was asked earlier this year to determine Alberta’s share of the CPP.

This report is still to come.

But Public Interest Alberta says opting out of the CPP would be detrimental.

“If Alberta opts out of the CPP, it will have potential consequences for all workers and retirees in this country. It is therefore very important that Public Interest Alberta, our allies and all Albertans speak out against this proposal, because it puts everyone’s retirement security at risk. ” said Bradley Lafortune of Public Interest Alberta.

Public Interest Alberta says there is even more interest in pension discussions following the Alberta Finance Minister’s statement. termination of the board of directors of the Alberta Investment Management Corporation last week.
