A school is inviting its community to have a say on plans to demolish and rebuild its main building.

Ormiston Sudbury Academy, a secondary school in Sudbury, Suffolk, is one of hundreds of schools set to be redeveloped under the Department for Education. school reconstruction program.

School says on its website the redevelopment “intended to help the school achieve an improved environment”.

Local residents and stakeholders are being invited to contribute their ideas to the proposals before a formal planning application is submitted to Babergh District Council.

The school said many buildings were in a “poor physical condition” and had been identified as requiring replacement.

The redevelopment would involve the demolition of existing main school buildings, including the sports block, design and technology building, and several other buildings.

The school plans to replace them with “a single, larger school building and a new, separate sports block”.

“These would be designed to optimize teaching layout and meet the latest energy efficiency standards,” the school said.

The new building is proposed to occupy land in the south-west part of the school site.

There would also be some overlap with the existing school building footprint.

Bowmer and Kirkland have been appointed as prime contractors and have previous experience on school projects.
