Last war in Ukraine: 40,000 people lose their heating after a deadly Russian strike; Kim orders ‘mass production’ of suicide drones | World News

That’s all our reporting on the war in Ukraine for now – but we’ll be back tomorrow with the latest news.

Before you go, here’s a look at today’s headlines:

Moscow will signal Putin’s intentions for Ukraine when Trump takes power, analysts say

Experts at the Institute for the Study of War think tank say there are indications that the Kremlin is now trying to dictate the terms of possible “peace” negotiations with Ukraine before Donald Trump’s inauguration in the United States.

“The way in which the Kremlin is trying to set the terms of the negotiations clearly indicates that Russia’s objectives remain unchanged and still amount to a total capitulation of Ukraine,” say the group’s analysts.

“The Kremlin appears no more willing to make concessions to the new Trump administration than it was to the current administration.”

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said yesterday that the start of Trump’s presidency would not fundamentally change the US position on Ukraine.

Russian forces entered northeastern suburbs of city, Ukrainian officials say

Ukrainian officials said a Russian assault group briefly entered the Kupiansk suburbs for the first time since Moscow’s forces fled the region in 2022.

“They entered partly into the suburbs, into the industrial zone and were destroyed by our troops… There were assault actions with heavy armored vehicles, there were attempts to bring in “infantry,” said the head of the city’s military administration.

The town, now just 2.4 kilometers from the front line, is under constant shelling and the population has fallen to 3,000 people who are being asked to evacuate, official Andriy Besedin said.
