It’s easy to see why Trapped won gold in the Calgary Sun’s Best Escape Room category and the Calgary Herald’s Readers’ Choice Awards.

As the largest escape room in Alberta at 7,600 square feet, Kensington’s Trapped also offers the most immersive experience with its variety of escape rooms and levels that put the storytelling experience first plan, explains marketing coordinator Jacob Coutu.

“Once your journey to freedom begins, you will discover that narrative and history are at the heart of everything we do. Your escape is not just a puzzle or a game, but a story of which you are an integral part,” explains Coutu. “We wanted to create the experience that makes it feel like you’re really there.”

Trapped goes above and beyond to make the experience as real as possible, with in-room scents and live actors optional. Before beginning their adventure, groups are blindfolded, guided through the escape room and game masters tell them a story before removing their blindfolds. Technologically advanced rooms such as King Durin’s Curse and Jack the Ripper take the experience from “pretty cool” to surreal.

“We understand and capture what people want when they tell a story. Our different rooms offer the scents of the theme, so when you walk into our carnival room you smell like popcorn, for example,” says Coutu, adding that there are also multi-level rooms.

From mystery and horror to thrill and adventure, there’s something for everyone at Trapped.

“Every aspect of your experience is tailor-made to offer you an escape from your everyday life to something out of this world,” adds Coutu.

Wheelchair accessible Trapped also has a party room and lounge, hosting corporate team building events and other group activities. The establishment even has a robotic butler named Rosie who escorts guests, serves drinks and sings songs.

“You can come for dinner, do an escape room and have a glass of wine afterwards,” says Coutu, adding that the escape room itself includes two bars, an outdoor terrace and a party room for private events . “You can take your drinks to the themed rooms and take home our free souvenir mug. Each themed room has its own special drink.
