The Sabarmati Report, headlined by Vikrant Massey, hit theaters today, November 15, 2024, as did the first reviews on social media platforms. A section of the audience took to their respective X handles (formerly known as Twitter) to share their first reactions after watching the drama thriller. The Dheeraj Sarna directorial especially appealed to netizens who called it a “heartbreaking” retelling of the 2002 Godhra train tragedy on screen. Some felt it was “an important film that demands attention and respect.” However, a few social media users found it “tedious”, except for Vikrant’s powerful performance.

The Sabarmati Report stars Vikrant as a journalist who strives to uncover hidden facts about the Godhra train tragedy. The film also stars Raashii Khanna and Ridhi Dogra in key roles. Disappointed with the film, a netizen said, “The Sabarmati report does not do justice to the Godhra case – a missed opportunity. Why do filmmakers often dilute the harsh truth in favor of a so-called “neutral narrative”? The truth deserves courage, not compromise. Another added: “Instead of being a well-researched docudrama, it ends up being a propaganda film. He tries too hard, tries to be funny, gives a lecture on Hindi and patriotism, tries to appeal to the Hindu audience but ends up being a tedious watch.
