Chemical spill sends two people to hospital, closes main road in Mississauga

Two people were taken to hospital and part of a main road was closed to traffic after a chemical spill Friday afternoon in east Mississauga.

Peel Regional Police are not saying much about the incident, only that two people were hospitalized “as a precaution” after a chemical spill shortly after 2:30 p.m. in the area of ​​Eglinton Avenue East and from Tomken Road.

It’s unclear what types of chemicals are involved in the spill or where they came from.

Tomken Road, between Eglinton Avenue East and Timberlea Boulevard, was closed to traffic for investigation and cleanup, police said.

Mississauga firefighters are also on scene and receiving assistance from police.

Police are calling on motorists to avoid the area.
