The 28 Best Boots for Fall 2024

The season of exposed ankles is coming to an end, friends. When the temperatures drop, it’s time to break out the boots. Boot weather, of course, remains a great opportunity for sartorial success. There’s nothing cooler or more versatile (or more protective against the cold) than a great pair of boots. Whether you’re looking for a sleek knee-length style or a petite ankle-length style, we have plenty of choices. New to the trend cycle this season are mid-calf shapes, seen on the catwalks of The Row and Prada, and comfortable sheepskin-lined shoes from Miu Miu and Toteme. Lace-up styles also continue to be popular, especially in the form of Bally’s loafer-boot hybrids. For all of our favorite boots to shop this season, check out our edit below.

On the knee

Whether equestrian, cowboy-inspired or urban, the best knee-high boots for fall come in sumptuous fabrics and chic styles. Massimo Dutti’s flat leather boots mimic the shape of a Wellington, while Proenza Schouler’s take on the ranch boot fuses the Western look with a polish fit for the streets of New York.

Ankle Grazers

If you want a shorter style for winter, look no further. We loved Aeyde’s ’90s-inspired black leather ankle boots, as well as Dear Frances’ Cade, which offer a more sturdy walk.

In between

Mid-calf boots have been a street style staple (usually paired with a tea-length skirt or cut-off shorts) for the past couple of fashion week seasons. Why not try Loeffler Randall’s curved heel suede boots or The Row’s endlessly chic Nobilis riding boot?

Lace-up shoes

Enjoy one of the greatest shoe trends of the season with a pair of Tabi combat boots from Margiela, or Paphos ankle boots from Bally, which scream New England in fall.

Toaster

Once the snow arrives, you’ll want to be prepared: cozy up in these fleece-lined boots for a little extra comfort. Toteme’s black boots would pair beautifully with an ankle-length coat; we also love the height (and drama) of the Miu Mius.

Biker Baby

Are you tired of hearing about stylish boot styles? We are here for you. Stuart Weitzman doesn’t play with the weight of his biker boot, while Manolo Blahnik offers a city-street version that prioritizes comfort.

Climb higher…

Knee height not high enough for you? Above-the-knee styles were synonymous with luxury on the fall 2024 runways, and our picks include a Lemaire style with a round heel, as well as a simply perfect leather Bottega Veneta boot.
