Operation Warm helps Edmonton kids stay warm with free coats

Hundreds of students at an Edmonton school received a new winter coat Friday, just in time for the snow.

Nearly 300 coats were given to Calder School students Friday as part of the FedEx Cares program in conjunction with Operation Warm.

FedEx Cares is the company’s global community engagement program.

Hot operation is a non-profit organization that makes coats and shoes for children in need. The organization has helped more than six million children over the past 25 years.

“It’s a great honor, I think it’s always nice to volunteer your time, give back to the community and, certainly, help families in need,” said Luciano Ianni, Senior Director of FedEx in Edmonton.

This year, Calder School was one of 35 schools in North and South America to benefit from the program.

“What a magical day… it means the world and it’s snowing today, among other things,” said Calder School Principal Sergio Teixeira.

“We constantly show kindness at our school, but for them to see and receive kindness is just amazing.”

Since the organizations’ partnership began in 2008, more than 1.4 million coats have been shipped.

The children were happy to be able to choose their jackets, appreciating how “soft” and “fluffy” they were.
