THE Philadelphia Phillies may be able to improve their bullpen by acquiring a pitcher considered by many to be the best pitcher in MLB.

Phillies could entertain Brewers shopping superstar Devin Williams

Matt Snyder of CBS Sports has linked Milwaukee Brewers star reliever Devin Williams to the Phillies as a potential candidate. Snyder had this to say about Milwaukee looking for a team to get rid of him:

“What if the Phillies let Estévez and Hoffman go and then trade for Williams? THE Brewers are known for being elite closers and he would be a great fit for any team,” Snyder wrote.

Williams is as close as there is in the major leagues today. The 30-year-old right-hander was limited to just 22 games in 2024, but still managed to record 14 saves behind a sparkling 1.25 ERA. In his final full season, Williams recorded 36 saves, having struck out 87 batters for a 1.53 ERA.

Williams could be just what the doctor ordered for the Phillies bullpen

The Phillies The bullpen finished the previous campaign with the sixth-fewest saves (37) in the big leagues. They could certainly use a player of Williams’ caliber to increase that total and help them eliminate some of their biggest foes in the postseason, a la the New York Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Missouri native was playing on a one-year contract worth $7.25 million in 2024. The Brewers did not pick up his $10.5 million team option for the 2025 campaign , but will compensate him with a $250,000 buyout despite still being under club control. according to Adam McCalvy and Theo DeRosa of MLB.com. So, the Phillies could take the opportunity to play a closer role and continue their quest for a World Series crown next season.
