After some morning clouds, the sun returned to West Tennessee this afternoon, warming us to around 60°. Temperatures will drop to around 50° at kickoff and into the mid 40s by the 4th quarter of playoff games tonight. The southerly winds will try to warm us up a little this weekend. Rain will return at the beginning of next week and frost will also be possible at the end of next week. We will come back to it here.

THIS WEEK:

Temperatures have been above normal every day so far during November, but that changed Thursday with temperatures a few degrees below average below the clouds and behind the front Wednesday evening. The coolest morning we’ve experienced so far Monday is 49° at the start of the week, but Thursday night we were much cooler and felt up to 37°. We could even drop back into the 30s Friday night, just in time to kick off the weekend. Temperatures will be in the upper 40s for the second night of the football playoffs in West Tennessee, so please bundle up.

Highs reached 70° again mid-week but only reached 60° on Thursday. Overnight lows fell most of the week into the 40s. Although a few 30s could still be possible in our northern counties tonight, no frosts or freezing temperatures are expected until perhaps the end of next week. We could be facing our last freeze on record if we don’t make it next Friday, but we still have 12 days before we set that record. The last fall frost we had in Jackson was October 28, 2004.

Highs on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday only reached the 60s. Clouds and showers will be back on Wednesday and a few storms tried to mix in but we didn’t see much. The rain began mid-morning and continued on and off into the afternoon and evening. The rain stopped before sunrise Thursday. Most of us saw between 1/2″ and 1″ of rain, but some isolated areas also received between 2 and 3″. We’ve seen about an inch in Jackson sitting well above the month and year so far in the rainfall department. We saw a cloudy day Thursday but skies will clear Friday afternoon. Mostly clear skies will return Friday evening and persist through the start of the weekend.

This week the winds came from the northeast on Tuesday, from the southeast on Wednesday, back to the northwest on Thursday and came directly from the north on Friday. The wind change was due to two cold fronts and a low pressure system moving through our area. High pressure arrived Thursday evening and will persist for a few days, preventing clouds and rain showers until early next week. No severe weather is currently forecast for us over the next 10 days.

THE WEEKEND:

South winds will look to return this weekend to West Tennessee, warming us up a bit to the mid 60s for highs and perhaps low 70s on Sunday. There is a chance the temperature will reach the 70s next Sunday and Monday, but it will be close for most of us. Saturday will be a mostly sunny day, but more clouds will return late Sunday. There is a chance of rain showers late in the day and perhaps a few thunderstorms now into late Monday, but that also doesn’t appear to be anything significant at the moment.

Saturday morning it will be a little chilly around 40° but Saturday evening it will be around 50° and the mid 50s are expected for our Sunday evening. Overall, the weekend looks pretty good, with Saturday being a little cooler, less humid but dry. For now, rain is expected to continue this weekend. There will be rain early next week and maybe even some frost at the end of the work week. It looks like our second cold snap of fall is on the way.
