UFC Signs 2 Potential Fights of the Night for Upcoming Event

Dana White and the UFC are on a roll when it comes to matchmaking. Perhaps it’s the “if you don’t know now you know” article that White popularized on social media.

The location for the official UFC Fight Night event on February 22 has not yet been announced, but two potentially action-packed fights are planned for the card.

The headline fight is a women’s bantamweight clash between top contenders. No. 4 Macy Chiasson will face No. 3 Ketlen Vieira in a fight that could put the winner on the verge of a title shot.

I say “could” because even if Vieira wins, she probably needs another win to have a shot at the title, as she lost by unanimous decision to Kayla Harrison at UFC 307. Chiasson would be in a much better place position.

She is coming off a victory against former title challenger Mayra Bueno Silva in her last fight. A win against Vieira could position Chiasson for a rematch with Raquel Pennington or a clash with Norma Dumont.

Regardless, Chiasson has won back-to-back bonus performances of the night and appears to be at his peak in terms of his skills and enthusiasm.

Vieira lost to Harrison at UFC 307, but she gained a lot of respect as a result. Vieira could have folded after Harrison had a dominant first round, but she came back to take the second frame, knocked out the Olympic gold medalist and made the fight competitive.

She will carry this moral victory into a battle with Chiasson with fairly high stakes. Also added to the card and most likely in position to be named co-main event, veteran Edson Barboza faces new UFC knockout artist Steve Garcia.

Marcel Dorff of Tapology was the first to report this fight, which is potentially a banger.

Barboza is the definition of an all-action fighter. He just lost to Lerone Murphy in May, and that brawl won fight of the night. Garcia has been destroying his opponents for two years.

Garcia has recorded five straight knockout victories, and if Barboza fights like he usually does, there will be opportunities to extend his streak. That said, Barboza still has the speed and explosiveness to finish himself.

Even though it’s not official, it wouldn’t be surprising if Barboza-Garcia was the co-headliner. Stay tuned for more information on the map location and the rest of the fights in the February 22 event.
