Police say man found shot to death in crashed vehicle in Scarborough was kidnapped; 2 suspects in police custody – CP24

Police said one person was found with a gunshot wound inside the vehicle and three suspects were taken into custody.

A man found shot to death inside a vehicle involved in a collision Friday morning in Scarborough was the victim of a kidnapping, and two suspects are facing charges in connection with the incident, Toronto police said.

Toronto Police Service Senior Duty Officer Brian Maslowski said police received a call at 4:45 a.m. from an individual reporting a “concerning message” received from a friend.

The message, Maslowski said, contained a photo of the friend being threatened with a gun. According to a police statement Friday evening, the victim was kidnapped at gunpoint by two suspects who then demanded a ransom.

Maslowski said officers were able to identify a suspicious vehicle. When they located and attempted to stop this vehicle in the area of Bellamy Road and Lawrence Avenue, the suspects fled.

A few hours later, around 7:45 a.m., that same car was involved in a collision with another vehicle near Midland and McNicoll avenues.

Police said two suspects fled on foot but were arrested after a brief foot chase. In the meantime, the victim, a man in his twenties, was found in the vehicle with a gunshot wound.

He and the two suspects were taken to hospital. Their lives are not in danger. Police said the driver of the other vehicle suffered minor injuries.

Investigators identified a suspect as 19-year-old Jahreyus Glave. He and the other suspect, a 17-year-old whose identity is protected under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, face numerous charges, including forcible confinement and kidnapping against ransom.

“This is a complex investigation, so I can’t share much,” Maslowski told reporters Friday afternoon.

Police are asking anyone with dash cam or CCTV footage of the area at the time of the incident to contact investigators or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
