Trump to create new energy council

United States President-elect Donald Trump has announced he will create a new organization to manage his energy policy, which includes increased production of fossil fuels.

In a statement released Friday, Trump says the National Energy Council will be made up of departments and agencies responsible for the licensing, production and regulation of energy in the country.

The council will be led by Doug Burgum, governor of the fossil fuel-rich state of North Dakota. Burgum will also lead the Interior Ministry.

Trump has said he wants to support oil and gas drilling to reduce energy costs.

In the statement, Trump says he will increase energy production to grow the economy, adding that the United States has large quantities of “liquid gold.”
